What services does your organization provide? Information and Referral Services; Peer Support; Employment Services, Community Development projects and Parking Permit program
Do you have any age requirements? 16 years old
Do you require language proficiency other than in English? No
What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer? This is determined between the volunteer and the volunteer coordinator.
Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer? Comfort level working with the public; strong interpersonal skills.
Are there any specific skills and experience required? This will depend on the type of work they plan to volunteer for. Generally, it will be helpful to have some office admin/reception skills; customer service; ability process sales.
What type of volunteer positions are typically available? Reception; Parking Permit Sales; Newsletter writing/editing; Scribing services for persons with disabilties applying for various benefits; admin support; mentoring for job seekers or newly employed.
Is there any training provided for volunteers? Yes, initially shadowing other staff, then one to one training on the job or in the case of scribe services, formal training.
How will a person benefit from volunteering with Victoria Disability Resource Centre? They will gain work hardening skills, customer service experience; office admin skills and knowledge of the various supports and resources available to persons with disabilities.
Do you accept high school students? Yes, we accept high school students, as well as college and university students.
