Volunteer Information for Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival

What services does your organization provide?
We run a three day fund raising festival that includes over 200 paddling teams and multiple vendors and exhibitors. We have over 70,000 visitors to our free event.


Do you have any age requirements?
The Minimum age to volunteer is 14.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No language skills other than English is needed. However, French is always helpful.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Our minimum shift time is 4 hours. Many of our volunteer do sign up for multiple shifts, but that is not required


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
No other requirements are needed.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
No specific skills are required. We do have some areas of our festival where a criminal records check (children's area) or a smart serve qualifications (beach bar) are required.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
We have many volunteer activities that take place over our 3 day festival including, Docks and Staging, Welcoming Crew, Main Tent and Beer Garden, and many more.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
We have one orientation meeting one day prior to the event.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Many or our activities include working with the general public, working on water, and working with out sponsors.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival?
Many of our volunteers gain experience in customer service, working with persons of different ages and abilities. We have a number of positions that work in sales and on the water. We have paddlers from all over North America and other countries. This is a great international experience.


Do you accept high school students?
Yes. We have a large number of students from all age groups, and a strong policy with regards to volunteer requirements.
