Successful candidates will be contacted to attend an interview and will be required to go through a detailed screening process including the provision of an acceptable Police check and Vulnerable sector Screening (to be completed after interview).

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
OPPORTUNITIES: 856 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is currently seeking volunteers to assist with our training program throughout the training year (Sept through June) in the following areas:

SPORTS AND PHYSICAL FITNESS ASSISTANT: Sports training is offered each Tuesday evening (8pm - 10pm) and sports and fitness training/testing is conducted several times a year during our Wednesday training nights (6:30-9:30pm). We also host and participate in several sports competitions annually.

A volunteer is needed to help run and supervise the weekly sports nights and the competitions. The ideal candidate would also be available to assist with other training activities on Wednesday evenings.

Qualifications: An interest in sports and fitness and a willingness to work with youth and provide guidance, leadership, and mentorship. Must be available on Tuesday evenings and occasional weekends - Wednesday evening availability as well would be a benefit.

BAND ASSISTANT: 856 Squadron has a 35 person Drum and Bugle band which practices weekly on Friday (6:30- 9:00pm) and participates in numerous community parades and competitions. A volunteer is needed to assist in the music training of the cadet band members.

Qualifications: Must have musical and instructional abilities (formal music teacher qualification is not required) and be available on Friday evenings and occasional weekends. The focus is on playing the instruments - not music theory.

TRAINING ASSISTANT: Volunteers are required to assist with all aspects of our training program (more information available here: http://cadets.ca/en/what-cadets-do/air.page ) including our newly launched flight simulator training program.

Qualifications: Must be available on Wednesday evenings (6:30 - 9:30pm) and occasional weekends. Must have an interest in developing youth in the areas of aviation, leadership, instructional technique, survival, etc.

ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT: Administration is a critical component of the Squadron by providing day to day financial, accounting, administrative, and personnel services in order to support unit operations.

Qualifications: Experience working with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and databases). Must be available on Wednesday evenings, be organised and self-directed with appropriate training.
