Canadian MBA Schools - Bilingualism/Linguistic Choice

The importance in studying in more than one language or in French in an MBA school.

How important is studying in more than one language or in French in an MBA school?

Some schools, primarily in southern Ontario and Quebec, offer the opportunity for students to acquire all or part of their respective education in either English and/or French. At some schools, such bilingual learning opportunities may only be provided for some courses while other institutions provide the option of completing the whole MBA in one of the aforementioned languages. Currently, HEC Montreal is the only school in Canada that affords its program entirely in either English or French and even offers some classes in Spanish. However, the School has no specific requirement stating that a student must take his/her degree entirely in one language or another. On the other hand, the Schulich School of Business at York University in cooperation with Faculté des Sciences de l'Administration de l'Université Laval in Quebec City offers a joint York/Laval University whose goal 'is to graduate bilingual and bicultural managers with a superior understanding of the realities and conditions of the Canadian business environment.' If you want a bilingual education then you will be restricted to a limited number of schools in central Canada.

Determining which MBA program and school is right for you will be an involved and time consuming proposition. However, finding the program that is right for you is important if it is to fit your needs, preferences, and wants. It is therefore imperative that you establish your goals and objectives before embarking on an MBA, and the aforementioned list to consider when choosing a program, although you may not consider all of it relevant to your situation, may help you find the right education for you.
