Students studying sport and exercise studies learn about the social, biological, political, business, and economic aspects of sport in society. Students study program development, the socio-cultural aspects of sport, human resources management, marketing, and public relations. They learn how to teach students the importance of health and fitness, help clients as a professional in therapeutic or rehabilitative services, coach athletes to nurture their athletic and personal growth, and administer sport programs in community recreation facilities, and sport associations.
Of course students study the biology of sport and exercise, such as exercise physiology, performance enhancement, nutrition, the biomechanics of human movement, pharmacology, and health and disease. The also study the psychology of sport and exercise. This includes coaching, motivation and emotion, psychopharmacology, and stress.
Students focusing on coaching learn the skills and techniques needed to help athletes reach their maximum physical potential. They learn general exercise principles, nutrition, and sport specific science.
Classroom studies are supplemented by practical studies. This includes working directly with athlete to develop personalize training regimes, dealing the the daily issues that come with running a small business, politics, and cultural issues.
