Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Cardiac Surgery |
Students currently taking an undergraduate degree in any discipline are usually eligible for admission to the MD program in cardiac surgery; in some cases full completion of the previous degree is mandatory. Some schools require an average of at least B in the previous degree (and of course, the higher the average, the better). Completion of relevant courses such as biology or chemistry is considered an asset, rounded out with several humanities and social sciences courses. Additionally, the MCAT (medical college admission test) must be written. A score of at least 27 is considered an asset for admission.
Generally, students who are in their final year of medical training are automatically eligible for residency training.
