Volunteer Information for United Way of Central Alberta
What services does your organization provide? We provide funding to to approx 35 local registered charities that provide social services programs.
Do you have any age requirements? Volunteers must be over 18.
Do you require language proficiency other than in English? No.
What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer? Depends on the role, committee volunteers can be as low as 5 hours a month, some of our campaign volunteers can be as high as 10 hours per week.
Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer? No other than to work hard and be committed.
Are there any specific skills and experience required? Yes again depends on the role, from fundraising skills to community development skills, our current treasure is a chartered accountant. We also have a lawyer on our board.
What type of volunteer positions are typically available? Committee volunteers, special event volunteers, Campaign volunteers, agency review volunteers.
Is there any training provided for volunteers? Yes we provide an orientation to all our volunteers, the Board members will get a mentor and depending on the role specific training will be given.
What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization? Committee volunteers and all the ones mentioned above!
How will a person benefit from volunteering with United Way of Central Alberta? Volunteering in one of our many roles can be very rewarding, on the one side you are helping raise money to support the community and on the other you are helping to allocate the money raised to the most deserving local charities.
Do you accept high school students? No not at the moment but this is certainly something we would consider.
