Volunteer Information for The Abilities Centre

What services does your organization provide?
Performing and fine arts programs and workshops, exercise and fitness programs, fitness assessments and personal training, life skills programs, community gatherings and tournaments, education resources and advocacy for persons with disabilities, symposiums and conferences, facility rentals.


Do you have any age requirements?
16 years of age


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
ASL and french preferred


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
1 hour per week minimum or 5 hours per month


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Vulnerable persons police records check, an interview and 2 references.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Customer service skills. Experience with making accomodations.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Program support, Event services, Membership services, Facility attendents


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
CPR, First Aid & AED, AODA, emergency response, customer service


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Providing support to those who need extra assistance or require accomodations to be made in order to access a service.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with The Abilities Centre?
The Abilities Centre will work with volunteer to establish goals that they can help a volunteer to meet. Goals may be personal or professional. Volunteers will receive training and certification opportunities. Volunteers are respected as being as important as any employee of the Centre.
