Volunteer Information for SEAWA South East Alberta Watershed Alliance

What services does your organization provide?
SEAWA aims to:

  • Improve water quality and quantity to support the region's long-term economic viability, the health of the community, and the vibrant natural habitats and ecosystems.
  • Maintain a current online "State of the Watershed" report.
  • Create an integrated "Watershed Management Plan" to address issues and desired outcomes.
  • Advocate the implementation of the Watershed Management Plan.
  • Elicit relevant science and technology, and encourage its adoption, to foster a healthy, sustainable watershed.
  • Inform and engage residents and other stakeholders with respect to watershed issues.
  • Provide a forum for positive and enjoyable interaction between stakeholders.


Do you have any age requirements?
SEAWA is governed by a Board of Directors that includes a representation from a wide range of stakeholders. We have a Youth position open to anyone aged 18-30. We also have an active Youth-led Team to engage and entertain students in watershed activities.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
All SEAWA business is conducted in English.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Board members are required to attend 9 Board meetings per year. Other volunteer commitments vary according to activity.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
We appreciate enthusiasm!


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
No.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Board and committee members. Field trip leaders with expertise in various land and water-related topics.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Training would be specific to the tasks or activities. No formal training provided or required for most SEAWA activities.


Do you accept high school students?
Definitely!
