Ride for Sight

Ride for Sight is the longest running motorcycle charity fundraiser in Canada; the first ride began in 1979 in Central Ontario. Each regional Ride has its own unique features. Annual Ride for Sight weekend celebration events are supported in part by generous corporate sponsorship and are organized by volunteer Ride for Sight Planning Teams. While Ride for Sight participants are primarily comprised of motorcyclists -- volunteers, fundraisers and supporters also include non-motorcyclists and families affected by retinal diseases.

What services does your organization provide?
Ride for Sight is the single largest private fundraising initiative for vision research in the world. To-date, Ride for Sight has raised more than $19 million in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, the only organization in Canada whose mandate is to fund research for blindness caused by retinal degenerations.

Who We Help
Canadian families affected by retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration. These diseases strike the nation's two most vulnerable populations, children and seniors. It is estimated that vision loss affects over 1 million Canadians.

What We Do
For more than 35 years, the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) has invested in Canadian research into the genetics of eye disease and the underlying mechanism of vision loss. Today, we are entering a new research era when these findings will be translated into treatments for blinding diseases of the retina.


Do you have any age requirements?
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers under 19 years of age must have parental/guardian consent.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
There are various times available the weekend of June 15-17, 2012.
Volunteers are required at Tudhope Park throughout the weekend and on Saturday at Lakehead University campus. Please see our website for specific information: www.rideforsight.com/co_volunteer.php

All volunteers will be invited to an orientation session prior to event weekend.

Ride for Sight requires volunteers to assist specifically with Ride for Sight weekend in Orillia (June 15-17, 2012).


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Ride for Sight?
Volunteers will gain experience in event planning and organization. Funds raised through Ride for Sight weekend go directly to Foundation Fighting Blindness which funds research of degenerative eye diseases.


Do you accept high school students?
Yes. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and those under 19 must have parental/guardian consent.
