What services does your organization provide?

Do you have any age requirements?
Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Additional languages beneficial as we have a very diverse and multicultural environment.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
We ask candidates for a minimum three month commmitment and they are asked to volunteer once per week for approximately 2 - 4 hours, depending on the program they are placed with.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Volunteers will complete a registration process which includes: application; policies related to Child Safety, Infection Prevention Control, Confidentiality, & Harassment; a TB test (one completed in the past year will be accepted and we provide forms you will require to obtain a new one); a police check (one completed in the past six months will be accepted and we provide forms you will require to obtain a new one).


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Beneficial to have worked with children and children with special needs but not mandatory.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?

  • Therapeutic Recreation - Intro to Swim, Soccer, Lose the Training Wheels & Arts Express Camps, partnership with community groups.
  • Junior Kindergarten classrooms
  • Early Childhood Education classrooms
  • Committee or Board appointments
  • Administrative
  • Family Resource Lending Library
  • Special Events

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Training will be provided by staff in all placements. Training will be specific to what services volunteer will be responsible for, Eg. Family Resource Lending Library will provide orientation to the service, library software, Boardmaker & overview of materials.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Most popular, or typical, volunteer experiences include working with early learning, curriculum based learning, therapy / treatment sessions, administrative / computers, etc.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with KidsAbility Centre for Child Development?
Anyone will benefit from gaining experience working with children and children with a multitude of special needs. Anyone considering a therapy-based discipline program will, if available, receive shadowing opportunities with an OT, PT or SLP
Those aspiring to education-based program can benefit from our ECE classrooms or JK classrooms and therapeutic swims.


Do you accept high school students?
We definitely accept and appreciate the contributions of our secondary students.
