Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre

What services does your organization provide?
The Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre offers free, immediate and confidential services for victims/survivors of sexual assault (both recent and past) who are 16 years of age and older

The Centre also offers information and support to significant others of victims/survivors of sexual assault.

The Centre offers a 24-Hour Crisis Line, Counselling, Outreach Services, Accompaniment, Advocacy, Survivor's Groups, Workshops, Public Education and Volunteer Opportunities, within the Cities of Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, and throughout the counties of Peterborough, Haliburton and Northumberland.

Do you have any age requirements?
Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Other languages are welcome but not required.

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Training takes 42 hours and volunteers are asked to work 3 shifts per month (crisis line or administration.)

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
An open mind and a desire to help are essential.

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?

Crisis line:Answering calls on the 24-hour crisis line when the Centre is closed.

Administration:Working the front desk and performing general office duties.

Bingo:Overseeing bingo sessions which raise money for the Centre.

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
A 42-hour training program is required to volunteer, which is provided by the Centre for free.
