Although we rescue dogs of all sizes, ages and condition, Hopeful Hearts was created especially to help fill a void in the local rescue world for senior and special needs dogs.

Do you have any age requirements?
13 years old is the minimum age requirement.

Not at the moment.

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
As much time as they are able to provide, when required.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
They need to have love and respect for dogs first and foremost. After that, depending on the fundraising event that is being held, we need people who like to bake, professional groomers, nail clipping people, people to help with fundraisers and drivers.

  • Drivers to pick up dogs from shelters or owners, to deliver food to fosters, and/or pickup and deliver dogs to vet appointments.
  • People to do home visits at potential adopter's home.
  • Groomers for incoming dogs and events.
  • Bakers for bakesales.

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
There will be training, as required, in order to let them know how we do things.

What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
There can be any number of fundraisers that people will hold for us. For instance, we have an annual spring walkathon, part of the Glebe Garage Sale, golf tournament, nail trims, Take the Plunge, Dovercourt dog swim, on-line auctions etc.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with Hopeful Hearts Dog Rescue?
They will meet innumerable new people with the same common interest in dogs but especially in helping to save these dogs through fundraising activities. It can make people feel like they are making a difference in the world.

Do you accept high school students?
Yes, we do.
