Volunteer Information for Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon

What services does your organization provide?
The Heart and Stroke Foundation provides information on heart disease and stroke in general, based on the best science available today, the Foundation raises funds to support research and health promotion programs. We feel that we can help more Canadians by investing in research and education that lead toward the prevention of heart disease and stroke as well as better treatments for the disease.


Do you have any age requirements?
We ask that minors be accompanied by a responsible adult but otherwise there is no age requirment. Some positions are better suited to youth but most are more adult oriented.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No other languages are required and sometime they are an asset.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
It depends on the campaign or position. We like to get three hour blocks but will ask for more if required or take less if that's all that's available.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
We like to have some PC competency for our office workers, and strong English language skills for some of our positions but require only a strong desire to help out with whatever campaign is running at the time for most.

We train our volunteers for the specific task required.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Answering the phone, taking donations, data entry, program administration support (eg:building a canvasser kit), driving (delivery & pick-up), canvassing, site set up and tear down, staffing information booths, special event support (eg:staffing a water station during a marathon or team registration for our Big Bike campaign), warm calling (phoning past canvassers to recruit them for the current year's campaign)
