What services does your organization provide?
Funds for Furry Friends is a foster home based rescue that provides care to animals in need while they await placement with approved forever families.

Do you have any age requirements?
Primarily there are two ways to help:

1. Volunteers 15+ can assist us with events but will be required to have their own transportation to events.
2. Volunteers 18+ that are home owners can assist with fostering, providing the are allowed pets where they reside and are able to get animals to and from vet appointments if needed. Also, all animals in the foster family must be spayed/neutered and vetted regularly.

Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No.

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Volunteers for events can assist on an event-by-event basis, and time requirements vary
Fostering is an ongoing program, and we are looking for individuals to provide the same level of care for their foster pets as would be needed as a pet owner. Animals live with foster families, and are cared for in their homes until they are adopted. The rescue will arrange boarding when families are away, but we are looking for individuals able to "babysit" on an ongoing basis.

Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Our primary need is for foster families. We do require foster families are located in the Southwestern Manitoba region, within a reasonable driving distance of Brandon, Manitoba. We strongly advocate spaying and neutering, and we need inviduals involved to subscribe to the same message. In addition, we are seeking families to be involved on an ongoing basis - the program is not designed for testing out a pet you may want to own. We can use foster families of all kinds!!!! Foster families are also responsible for providing regular updates regarding their foster pets to the rescue coordinator, and access to email is strongly desired but not required.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Foster homes are needed for both cats and dogs. All supplies are provided, and we have had first time pet owners foster for us. Foster families must be willing to work with pets that may need some level of training and housebreaking.

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
There is no training provided, but we do try to place animals according to experience levels and with consideration for kids, cats and/or other dogs in the household.

What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
We have coffees periodically where foster parents can get together and talk. We also have events that the foster families are encouraged to attend where the dogs they are fostering (and occassionally cats) can meet and greet potential adopters! These generally take place in Brandon Manitoba.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with Funds for Furry Friends?
There is nothing more rewarding that sharing your home with a pet and being a part of saving a life. Each and every time a pet is adopted, you make room for another one to be saved!

Do you accept high school students?
Our events can add a day's worth of participation for a high school community service hours - but we do not have anything ongoing.
