Community Living Parry Sound

Community Living Parry Sound works to ensure that people of all ages who are developmentally disabled can live in their own community under conditions which encourage their personal growth and allow them to be valued and contributing members of the community.

The Association is incorporated as a non-profit organization and is jointly funded by the Ministry of Community, Family and Children's Services and donations from private and corporate members of the community.

We are a non-profit community based organization that supports children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities, their families and friends. We seek to improve the quality of life of people with development disabilities so they will:

Be accepted and valued citizens
Accomplish personal goals
Benefit from the active involvement of family and friends
Enjoy the best possible physical and mental health

What services does your organization provide?
We provide services for people who have a developmental disability in the areas of:

  • Community Support Services
  • Day Support Services
  • Transitional Youth Services(TYS)
  • P.A.T.H.S
  • Residential Services
  • Children's Services
  • Associate Living Program
  • Lifestyle Planing Services
  • Employment Services
  • Respite Services
  • Sensory Integration


Do you have any age requirements?
We accept and screen potential volunteers who mainly Grade 9 upto and including adults in their golden years, although people do volunteer as families with young children for events and special socials.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Not at this time.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Student placements must be prepared for the screening process. No placement and volunteering can start until the criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening has been returned and approved. There is no minimum or maximum time commitment. It depends on the desired involvement of the individual volunteer.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Full screening completed and approved. Personal qualities as above.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
No specific skills or experience are required, however, volunteers must be mature and motivate, work well as a team and independently. They must have good communication skills.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Social, special events, board and committee members, mentoring people in community activities and volunteer jobs, administration volunteer, occasional trip volunteer, Special Olympics-trainer, coach, committee, fundraising, and general duties volunteers.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Quality Assurance-mandatory
Optional-Ethics of Touch, various video link learning free of charge however sign up is essencial to participate, Synergy Project-free and for cost workshops requiring registration.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Supporting people wishing to attend community activities and events, mentoring people who wish to volunteer, socializing, fundraising


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Community Living Parry Sound?
Formally-gain experience working with people who have a developmental disability (this helps anyone working in the Human Services field and teaching gain a better understanding).
Informally-have fun, meet great people, creative thinking


Do you accept high school students?
Yes administrative tasks, special events, assisting children to participate in community based programs such as camp, sports and social gatherings, fundraising like carwashes and awareness events like the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
