Volunteer Information for Chartwell Wynfield Retirement Residence

What services does your organization provide?
Our lifestyle services offer programs in six dimensions of wellness - physical, intellectual, social, emotional,vocational and spiritual.


Do you have any age requirements?
Minimum age requirement is 13.
Our volunteers require a Police Record Check, recent TB screening and a flu shot.
Volunteers will assist in program areas and receive on the job training for volunteer responsibilities.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
English is our primary language at this time.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Volunteers give a minimum of one hour per week. We are flexible with morning, afternoon and evening programs.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Volunteers should appreciate seniors and understand some of the changes that come in the aging process. These topics are discussed in the Volunteer Orientation.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
We try to provide an experience that blends the skills of the volunteers with the needs of the residents. If a volunteer has a special skill, for example, singing, playing a musical instrument, dancing, we would appreciate and encourage them sharing their skills.

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
The Lifestyle and Program Manager provides new volunteers with an orientation to volunteering and to the residence.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Volunteers interact with residents providing social activities, card games, board games, trivia, crosswords, assisting with resident outings and special events.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Chartwell Wynfield Retirement Residence?
Our home offers the opportunity to develop a sense of community with our seniors. Anyone entering nursing, social work, gerontology or recreation would benefit from our experience.
We will provide a reference letter.


Do you accept high school students?
We encourage high school students to volunteer with us. We will provide a letter upon completion of 40 hours. We also welcome students who need co-op or placement hours.
