What services does your organization provide?
* Support groups for family caregivers and people in the early stages of dementia
* First Linkr early intervention
* One-on-one support
* Dementia Helpline
* Minds in Motion T social /recreation program
* Provincial lending library of book


Do you have any age requirements?
Minimum age requirement is 18


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No additional languages needed.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
A 6 month commitment is required. It is a once a week commitment for 3 hours.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Smile and have fun


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
 Enjoys being with people, and is comfortable reaching out and including others
 Patient, friendly and fun; comfortable in a non-competitive, inclusive environment
 Experience working with older adults helpful
 Knowledge and experience with dementia helpful
 Physically able to participate in the fitness part of the program
 Able to lift light weights (supplies)


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
At this time the Minds in Motion volunteer position is available.


Do you provide training for volunteers?
 Alzheimer Society orientation
 On-the-job supervision
 Access to Alzheimer Society dementia education programs
 Access to regular volunteer meetings and/or check-ins with the program coordinator


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
At this time the Minds in Motion volunteer position is available


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Alzheimer Society of BC?
 Participate in the fitness part of the program
 Learn about dementia
 Gain experience with people with early stage dementia and care partners
 Inclusion in the volunteer recognition program

 Refreshments while volunteering
