Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Statistics |
Many schools also offer graduate programs in statistics. A previous undergraduate degree in a related field (eg. statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, etc) is required for admission with at least a B+ average. Practical experience in statistics in the form of directed studies or a work placement is an asset. To get into a PhD program in statistics, students must have completed a Master's-level degree in statistics. Some schools will allow PhD students directly from an undergraduate degree, provided they have sufficiently high grades (usually A-) and an aptitude for research. Other schools will allow transfer from the Master's program to the PhD program after 1 year. In all graduate programs, the supervisor must be decided prior to final admission.
