Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Mining Engineering |
Admission to a graduate-level program in mining engineering requires a previous degree in a related discipline (eg. engineering, geology, earth science) with a minimum B+ average (in some cases this must be an honors degree). Some schools also require some form of advanced experience in a mining engineering environment (eg. co-op, directed studies, out-of-school employment, etc).
Admission to a PhD program can either be directly from an undergraduate degree in a related engineering subject (in addition to already having extensive research experience, and being published in a peer-reviewed journal), or after acquiring a relevant Master's-level degree.
As all graduate programs require a supervisor, most schools require this person to be approved prior to final admission.
