The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is the province's only laptop-based university. Every student uses a current model IBM laptop to access course materials, conduct research, make presentations and communicate with faculty. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is Ontario's fastest-growing university. Applications from Ontario high school students for the 2004-2005 academic year jumped 30 per cent, while applications from outside Ontario, mature students and international students jumped by 175 per cent.

At the University of Ontario Institute of Technology you can choose from several career-focused degree programs, some unique in Ontario. Recently they have added several new undergraduate programs and will continue to expand undergraduate offerings, including more master's and doctoral programs. As well they are offering a Master of Information Technology Security, which is the first of its kind in Canada and one of the few specialized IT security programs in the world.
