Completion of a previous degree in a related discipline (eg. engineering, electrical engineering) with a minimum B+ average is required for admission to a graduate-level power engineering program. Some schools also require some form of advanced experience in a related environment (eg. co-op, directed studies, industry employment, etc).
Admission to a PhD program in power engineering can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in addition to already having extensive research experience, and being published in a peer-reviewed journal), or after acquiring a relevant Master's-level degree.
As all graduate programs require a supervisor, most schools require this person to be approved prior to final admission.
