Undergraduate physiology students take courses in introductory biology, chemistry, and physics, before taking more advanced courses in physiology. This includes mammalian physiology, human physiology, human genetics, and the physiology of the various human systems (eg. cardiovascular system, endocrine system, nervous system, respiratory system). More advanced laboratory courses designed to teach techniques are offered to upper-level students.
Graduate students already have a background in physiology, and can concentrate on more advanced and specialized courses. This includes blood physiology, artificial cells, and applied immunology. Non-physiology courses such as advanced biochemistry, bioinformatics, ion channels, hormone action, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and experimental medicine round out the various courses available to graduate students.
Graduate students also attend many seminars on recent advances in human physiology and new laboratory techniques. As part of their graduate studies, students are expected to present their research findings (directed studies or thesis) through seminars of their own.
