Physiology and Biophysics Research Areas and Disciplines |
Research in physiology is a combination of pure and clinical research. Most aspects of human physiology are homologous to animal physiology, so animal experimentation is common (although less widespread nowadays due to ethical concerns; it has since been replaced in some instances with computer modeling).
Clinical physiological research is concentrated in the areas of cardiovascular sciences (eg. heart failure), chemical metabolism (drugs), chemical oncology (chemotherapy), fetal health (eg. stem cells), systems physiology (eg. pancreatic disease), neurosciences (eg. brain injury), and skeletal development (eg. bone growth). Research takes place as collaboration amongst universities, hospitals, and research centers, and can include local, regional, national, and international entities.
