Pediatricians can find work almost anywhere. They can find employment in the pediatrics departments of large hospitals, small community clinics in rural or suburban settings, or schools. They are responsible for treating children with acute illnesses, caring for children with special needs such as learning difficulties, and aiding the family pre- and post-treatment. Nursing opportunities are also available for pediatricians.
They can also work alongside gynecologists in the emergency department, critical care departments, or maternity wards. They are frequently involved in research projects and providing guidelines for preventative health education, and as such are employed by government agencies such as Service Canada (eg. Children and Youth Services), or their provincial counterparts.
