People with a degree in immunology can work in a variety of settings. The degree itself can be used for entry to other programs (eg. a research degree for admission to medicine). People with research-based degrees often follow 2 paths: either teaching in a university and doing research as well, or doing pure research in a research center such as the National Research Council. They can also work in various pharmaceutical companies in drug development.
People with a clinical degree in immunology often work in a hospital setting, diagnosing and treating people with immune disorders such as HIV, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, or transplantation rejection issues. They often work in several departments on an as-needed basis (eg. pediatrics, emergency department, pathology).
