Many with a degree in health studies work in public health policy at the local, regional, national, or international level. There they work in health promotion, client placement coordination, community outreach, decision analysis, disease prevention, and in health education. Example of agencies employing those in health studies include Health Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Veterans Affairs, and Stats Canada. As well, nonprofit organizations focusing on disease prevention, policy analysis, program planning, public education, and policy analysis will hire graduates in health studies.
Some choose to remain in academic research or go into consulting, where they often combine these with teaching at a university or hospital. Others work for private healthcare-related firms such as in pharmaceuticals or medical equipment.
Graduates can also go on to further studies in nursing, social work, medicine, occupational therapy, or health care management. Others get a teaching degree and teach health education at the secondary level.
