What is Social Work?

Social work (also called social services) is a profession concerned with helping individuals, families, groups, and communities to enhance their well-being. Social work also deals with broader social issues such as poverty, unemployment, abuse, and domestic violence. Professional social workers often work in case management, clinical social work, human services management, social policy analysis and development, community organizing, and advocacy.

In Canada, social work is regulated by the provinces and graduates must be professionally licensed to work in Canada. The Canadian Association for Social Work Education is responsible for accrediting university-based social work programs.

About Social Work

Social work falls under social sciences and is similar to various community and human services. It is related to law, women's studies, sociology, education, psychology, and nursing.
