What is Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery?

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty that deals with the correction or restoration of form and function. It encompasses 2 fields: cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery is meant mainly for esthetic purposes; procedures such as face-lifts and breast implants. Reconstructive surgery is meant more for practical purposes; procedures such as skin grafts for burn victims or congenital defects.

About Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Plastic surgery is a subspecialty of surgery. Aspects of orthopedics are also considered reconstructive surgery (eg. hip replacements).
