To be admitted to a Master's-level program in gerontology or aging studies, students must have an undergraduate degree in a related discipline such as social work, nursing, or psychology, with at least a B+ average. Relevant practical work with the elderly is considered an asset. To be admitted to a PhD program in gerontology or aging studies, students must generally have a Master's degree in gerontology, although some schools may allow direct transfer after 1 year in the Master's program. In all cases, the student must have a supervisor chosen prior to final admission.
