People with a degree in biostatistics can work in a variety of areas. Often they will choose to work in public health, including epidemiology and various health services agencies. They can work in research centers, universities, or hospitals designing various experiments and clinical trials for all other departments, and analyzing the results.
Employment in the agricultural field is also available, where they can work with new crops or in animal breeding, determining how changes in phenotype (outside appearance) can be influenced at the genetic level (genotype). They can also work in the biomedical field doing the same type of analysis, where this information is helpful in human genetics (eg. predisposition to a disease).
Biostaticians can also work for government agencies where they collect and interpret data and do ecological forecasting. Parks Canada and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada employ graduates of biostatistics. A degree in biostatistics can also lead to further studies in epidemiology, mathematical biology, or bioinformatics.
