A previous degree in a related discipline (eg. biology, chemical engineering) with a minimum B+ average is required for admission to a graduate-level program in biological engineering. Some schools also require some form of advanced experience in a biological engineering environment (eg. co-op, directed studies, industry experience, etc.).
Admission to a PhD program in biological engineering can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in addition to already having extensive research experience and a high academic average) or after acquiring a relevant Master's-level degree.
As all graduate programs require a supervisor, most schools require this person to be approved prior to final admission.
