On April 23rd 1964 Big Brothers of Welland County was formed, serving the South Niagara area. Membership with the United Way in 1965 provided funding for the organization. The organization grew rapidly and within two years began to service the Peace Bridge area, and remained servicing the area for nineteen years. The agency has gone through three name changes in its history, reflecting organizational changes with our local United Way.

In 1988, we were the Niagara Life Welland Centre located in an office provided by Christ Community Church on Division Street. We began with a Mother's Friendship Program and home visitation to women from the Welland community.

For some, the weight of a mental health disorder makes the burden far heavier than it is for others. The Welland Historical Museum
140 King St, Welland, Ontario
The original Carnegie Library was built in 1923. Additions were added in 1961 and again in 1974. It was one of the last Carnegie Libraries to be built in Canada. The Welland Historical Museum moved into the building in the spring of 2006. The building was recognized as being historically significant by the City of Welland, and on Saturday, October 14, 2006 was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.

The Welland & District SPCA over the last few years has grown to include its own S/N clinic and a mobile S/N clinic. We also have a close partnership with Petsmart Charities of Canada who have helped us with our clinics and continue to support our spay / neuter initiatives. We will continue to set the PACE for Animal Welfare in Ontario with our partner communities.
