Wildlife Research Areas and Disciplines |
Given that most wildlife management and conservation relies on accurately measuring and monitoring wildlife populations, there is always research into improving the methodology by which data is obtained. Studies into more effective tracking and monitoring methods, including GPS tracking, antenna technology, and power source longevity are ongoing.
There is also research into mitigating conflicts between wild animal populations and humans. For instance, public education efforts are being implemented and refined regarding interactions with wildlife in National Parks. Scientists are designing new barrier technologies such as deer-proof fencing and wildlife under- and overpasses where migration routes intersect highways.
Studies are also underway to estimate populations of endangered species and determine ways to protect them. This incorporates tracking technologies and also changes in local policies: for example restrictions on hunting, managing invasive competing species, or disease control.
