The University of British Columbia (UBC) is home to one of the largest sub-atomic particle accelerators in the world and to Canada’s largest anthropological museum and third biggest university-based library system. UBC is currently undertaking a strategic plan called 'Trek 2010' through which it aims, in collaboration with business, government, other post-secondary institutions, and the professions, to re-organize, re-orient, and re-structure its goals, principles, and strategies in order to found a new base of academic and educational excellence upon which students may be embedded with the knowledge and analytical, research, and social skills required to successfully understand and succeed in an ever-changing, globalized, and technology-based world. In September, 2005, UBC will be opening a new campus in Kelowna, British Columbia to be called 'UBC Okanagan.'

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a comprehensive university offering a wide array of educational opportunities at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels drawn from 12 faculties and 11 schools. Students wishing to take for-credit instruction abroad may do so for a maximum of 2 consecutive semesters via UBC’s 'Student Mobility Programs' which partner’s the University with 150 post-secondary institutions in 35 countries. Moreover, for-credit distance education is proffered through UBC's Distance Education and Technology (DE&T) which offers courses in 30 areas of study. In addition, over 30 Continuing Education certificates and programs divided into 13 areas of study, designed primarily for adult learners and individuals who want to further their education for various academic, personal, and/or professional reasons are, carried by UBC. Opportunities available via Continuing Education include 'professional programs' from 9 areas of study, Continuing Medical Education, Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development, Diploma in Accounting, Executive Education, Interprofessional Continuing Education, Master of Educational Technology Program, Master's in Business Administration, Real Estate Division, Sales and Marketing Management.
