They also learn the rules and procedures for the safe operation and maintenance of an emergency vehicle.
Theory includes topics in anatomy and physiology, cardiology, pharmacology, emergency medicine, psychology, ethics, and communication. Students are also trained on the use of devices such as electrocardiograms, defibrillators, and X-ray devices. They also learn how to administer drugs both orally and intravenously, such as epinephrine, nitroglycerine, and ASA. Students also learn procedures such as CPR and assisting with childbirth.
A clinical placement is integral to all paramedical training. Students get to apply their theoretical knowledge by observation and hands-on training.
