Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Otolaryngology |
Most otolaryngology degrees are MD's, but McGill University also offers a MSc degree in otolaryngology. Admission to the program requires acceptance by two joint research supervisors (one a basic scientist, the other a clinician), and the departmental research committee must approve the proposed program.
Admission to an MD program is generally contingent on getting a favorable score on the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test). A grade of at least B is also required in the last 2 years of a previous program (and the higher the average, the more likely is admission). Students currently taking an undergraduate degree in any discipline are usually eligible for admission to the MD program in otolaryngology; in some cases full completion of the previous degree is mandatory.
Generally, students who are in their final year of medical training are automatically eligible for residency training.
