Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Molecular Biology |
Admission to a graduate-level program in molecular biology requires a previous degree in a related discipline with a minimum B+ average (in some cases this must be an honors degree). Acceptable related disciplines include biology and biochemistry. Some schools also require some form of advanced laboratory experience in a molecular biology research environment (eg. co-op, directed studies, employment as a laboratory technician, etc.).
Admission to a PhD program can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in addition to already having extensive research experience, and being published in a peer-reviewed journal), or after acquiring a relevant MSc degree.
Applicants who hold international degrees and wish admission to a graduate-level degree must supply a GRE (graduate record exam) with a score of at least 75%.
