Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Medical Laboratory |
Graduate-level degrees in MLS (often in conjunction with a medical degree) are also possible...a previous degree in a related subject such as biology, chemistry, or MLS with a minimum B+ average is necessary. Most schools also require some form of practical laboratory experience in a related environment, such as that gained through co-operative education or internships.
In all cases, previous employment in the health care field is a substantial asset for final admission. As well, since students are often working with potentially hazardous materials, up-to-date immunizations (eg. hepatitis, TB, influenza) are often required.
