A previous degree in a related discipline (eg. engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering) with a minimum B+ average is required for admission to the University of Waterloo's Master's-level programs. Practical experience in mechatronics, via co-op, directed studies, or industry-related experience, is considered an asset.
Admission to their PhD program can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in exceptional circumstances, with a very high average and previous research experience), or after acquiring a relevant Master's-level degree.
In both cases, a supervisor must be chosen prior to final admission.
