In recent years, the standards of the interior design profession have been approaching the levels of architecture, its most closely related discipline. Eventually a master’s degree may be the expected minimum level of education in the profession, but for now a bachelor’s degree is all that is required to begin a career. After an amount of employment experience specified by a provincial board, they are eligible to write the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination, which grants professional membership in several important associations, including the Interior Designers of Canada (http://www.interiordesigncanada.org/).
