Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Evolutionary Biology |
Admission to a graduate-level program requires a previous degree in a related discipline with a minimum B+ average. Acceptable related disciplines include molecular biology, bioinformatics, or ecology. Some schools also require some form of advanced laboratory experience in a evolutionary biology research environment (eg. summer research project, co-op, directed studies, employment as a laboratory technician, etc.).
Admission to a PhD program can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in addition to already having extensive research experience, and being published in a peer-reviewed journal), or after acquiring an MSc degree.
As all graduate programs require a supervisor, some schools require this person to be approved prior to final admission.
