Studying Dermatology in Canada |
Dermatologists must have a working knowledge in basic sciences including microbiology, pathology, biochemistry, physics, physiology, and endocrinology. They must be familiar with all the other medical specialties because many skin diseases are associated with internal conditions.
After preliminary courses in the basic sciences, focus is on topics such as the macroanatomy and microanatomy of the skin, nails, and hair. Pathology, histology, and treatment of inflammatory features are also taught.
Hospital-based consultations and outpatient clinics under the supervision of a resident are taken by all dermatology students. Students learn to describe the basic features and diagnostic methods for common dermatological disorders (infectious, inflammatory, and genetic conditions).
