Counselling and Therapy Research Areas and Disciplines |
One area of research in counseling psychology is in the determination of the efficacy of early childhood intervention programs that have an impact on the health, wellness, and environment of families with children who have developmental delays. Various intervention programs are underway with longitudinal studies, where children are studied for many years to determine if certain intervention strategies are more effective over others. This includes assisting technology devices and services, occupational therapy, social work services, and speech-language pathology. This research is usually in conjunction with those in medicine, psychology, social work, and therapeutic schools.
Researchers are also working to improve the quality and teaching of student learning at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. Studies are underway into teaching teachers how to be more effective, issues related to quality and accreditation of post-secondary education, and reform of educational systems in developing countries.
Counseling psychologists are also working with those in addiction psychology and mental health studies to understand addictions and provide assistance in overcoming them. See the articles on mental health studies, substance abuse counseling, and addiction psychology for more information.
