Control Engineering Research Areas and Disciplines |
Most research in control engineering is tied to mechanical, electrical, computer, or chemical engineering and is thus very prevalent. Robotic control is an emerging field as robots are being used more and more in everyday life. Research focuses on improving control techniques and ensuring the correct desired output (eg. writing software that will ensure a robot will manipulate a tool correctly on a vehicle assembly-line).
Other control engineering research focuses on the food safety industry, where processes are developed that will ensure food will arrive on store shelves in safe condition (eg. monitoring the pressure in milk pasteurization).
Another area where control engineering research is on going is in the power industry, where new procedures for creating and maintaining suitable energy levels are being examined. For example, nuclear power engineers are designing methods to monitor and prevent temperature spikes.
