The focus of a conflict and war studies degree depends upon the student and the institution she or he attends. For example, RMC’s war studies program (MA) emphasizes “the practical issues of defense policy, strategic planning as well as the operational aspects of modern warfare”. Other universities focus on addressing responses to conflict at the local, personal and international levels. They study the roots of conflict (economic, political, religious, cultural, racial, psychological) so that they can develop methods of conciliation and resolution. As well as specific courses in this field, students may pursue related courses in history, economics, business, labour studies, sociology, anthropology, and international development, among others.
