What is Condensed Matter Physics?Condensed matter physics (also known as solid state physics) deals with the study of matter at scales larger than atoms. The most familiar examples of condensed phases are solids and liquids. More exotic condensed phases include superconductors and Bose-Einstein condensates.
"Soft" condensed matter physics involves the study of systems such as polymers, liquid crystals, emulsions, liquids, and quasicrystals. Many problems of interest in soft condensed matter physics have strong overlap with biology such as the mechanical behavior of DNA, biomembranes, and biomolecules.
