Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Biotechnology |
Admission to a graduate-level program in biotechnology requires a previous degree in a related discipline with a minimum B+ average. Acceptable related disciplines include chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, medicine, biology, or microbiology. Some schools also require some form of advanced laboratory experience in a biotechnology research environment (eg. summer research project, co-op, directed studies, employment as a laboratory technician, etc.).
Admission to a PhD program can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in addition to already having extensive research experience, and being published in a peer-reviewed journal), or after acquiring an MSc degree.
Applicants who hold international undergraduate degrees and wish admission to a graduate-level degree must supply a GRE (graduate record exam) with a score of at least 80%.
As all graduate programs require a supervisor, most schools require this person to be approved prior to final admission.
