People with a BME degree can go on to work in a hospital or clinical setting, doing research into creating more effective and novel medical devices such as artificial prostheses or pacemakers. They can also work in medical equipment manufacturer sales, where they are responsible for maintenance and safety inspection of medical equipment, operator training, testing and commissioning, and equipment evaluation.
BME graduates can also work in the radiology and medical imaging departments of hospitals, where they operate and maintain the equipment. Academic employment is also available in most universities in Canada, where people can teach BME as well as perform research, usually in collaboration with hospitals or private industries. BME graduates can also pursue further studies at the graduate level, or use their BME degree as a foundation for studies in business, law, dentistry, or medicine.
