Please see below for events and issues that may be OF INTEREST. Largest Orientation of all Canadian Universities... Coordinated by Western's University Student Council (USC) and its 850 Orientation Leaders, Orientation Week at Western is the largest of all Canadian universities. It runs from September 4 to 10 and promises to introduce new students to the physical, social, cultural and academic environments at Western during an action packed week. Highlights include fundraising for Shinerama and Terry Fox, seminars on how to write multiple choice exams, and a Sam Roberts concert on University Hill. Students will say goodbye to parents and families when more than 4,000 of them move into Western's nine campus residences on Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5, beginning at 8 a.m. each day. As first year students learn to manage their new found independence they're being urged to make good choices. With sexually transmitted infections (STIs) on the rise, especially among young adults, they're being urged to "Get it on..." Bonnie Lynn Wright, Associate Professor at Western's School of Nursing, and Manager of Sexual Health at the Middlesex London Health Unit says "Get it on" is a new campaign that encourages those who are sexually active to wear a condom. It's also the message that is being delivered in 10,000 frosh kits in London to promote safe sex. Students gain on average five pounds during their first term at university according to Jennifer Irwin, Assistant Professor in Western's Bachelor of Health Sciences Program.
